Sharing the Persian Gulf coastline are Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and various small islands.

The music, Bandari – literally, "from the port" – or Khaliji - "from the gulf" - is a marriage of Iranian and Arabian melodies with African rhythmic sensibility, and used by people of the gulf for enjoyment, dancing, worship, and healing.

This album gives a taste of what musical possibilities may lie hidden in classic Bandari standards.
